All Smiles is all about the power of positive attitudes, and how they affect our guests, as well as our team. For years, psychologists have studied the influence that attitude has on health. It is clear there is a direct link between one’s outlook on life and their health. Many people with serious injuries or illnesses have been studied, and often their optimism and upbeat attitude has aided in prolonging their lives, despite a grim prognosis from their doctors (example: Christopher Reeves).
Studies have found that positive attitude lowers cardiovascular risks, lowers stress levels, and lowers levels of inflammation. Psychologists have made it clear that positive attitudes do not serve as a cure for disease, but improve the life that you do have and benefit your health. Those will an illness or disability who are able to remain positive, rather than dwell on the health issue, allow their body’s natural healing to occur and have been known to make quicker recoveries, or just maintain a better–and often longer–quality of life. The mind-body connection is increasing in recognition and popularity, so as new studies are done, the effects of attitude on health may be found to be more far-reaching.
