Screening for Oral Cancer

Early detection is the best predictor of treatment success with oral cancer. The survival rate continues to sit at about 50%, however according to most dental health professionals, this is due to lack of early oral cancer screening, as well as lack of awareness of oral cancer signs and symptoms.

At All Smiles Care, we believe in preventative dental care, which means we screen for oral cancer at every hygiene appointment. If you have a history of oral cancer in your family or if you partake in tobacco products, please pass on this important information to your dentist.

Signs of oral cancer include :

  • sore white or red patch in mouth that doesn’t heal
  • difficulty swallowing
  • hoarseness of the throat that does not go away
  • lump in neck or the back of the mouth
